Storage
Going Into Hibernation
Is your gear ready for Hibernation. This document describes the best practices for preparing your gear for storage to come out of hibernation, once the weather warms up.
Flitecell Preparation for Storage:
Before going into storage, the Flitecell should be thoroughly cleaned. Wet a cloth (with freshwater) and wipe down the outside surfaces of the Flitecell keeping the water away from the terminals. The terminals can be wiped down with a small amount of Isopropyl alcohol and a Cotton tip / Q -tip.
For long- or short-term storage of Flitecell, a state of charge of 40% is optimal (1 LED ON indicates 25 - 35% charge). For longer periods between 40% - 60% SOC also works well (2 LED’s indicate 50% - 75%). The reason for this is the BMS contains self balancing technology this only works to a SOC of 50% to save the batteries capacity. Alternatively for older Flitecells the magnet can be left on to optimise and balance the Flitecell.
We recommend that you discharge the Flitecell during your final session of the season and then charge to the designated percentage 40-60%. For longer term storage, every 2 months place the Flitecell on charge, This ensures it does not fall below its low voltage threshold, ready for your first ride of the season.
DO NOT store the Flitecell near heat sources such as a furnace or heater. .
Ideal Flitecell storage temperature between 10°C (50°F) and 25°C (77°F) in a safe, dry place.
DO NOT store the Flitecell whilst charging. Disconnect the charger when not in use.
After long term storage of your Fliteboard components and before use, you are required to charge the Flitecell and Flite controller to 100% using the supplied Fliteboard chargers. We recommended doing this a week or 2 weeks before your ride this will allow the self-balancing technology in the BMS to balance the Flitecell or leaving a magnet on older Flitecells will yield the same result.
All other Fliteboard components should be completely disassembled for long term storage and thoroughly cleaned with soapy water, keeping any water away from electronics and electrical connections.
eFoils should be wiped down with Isopropyl alcohol prior to storage especially targeting any joins to free from salt build up. All electrical connections should be cleaned with a Q-tip / Cotton tip dampened with isopropyl alcohol only.
All Components should be completely dried before going back into their cases and all stored in a dry stable environment inside their case.
Folding Prop Maintenance
The Folding Prop is made from aircraft grade anodized aluminum. Similar maintenance to the eFoil should be applied.
The Folding Prop should be cleaned with at minimum Freshwater after use.
Periodically remove the Folding prop. Clean with a microfiber towel as well as WD-40 or Isopropyl alcohol. Salt can build up around both the pins that hold the blades in place as well as the back clamp that clamps around the propeller pin. Target these areas thoroughly.
Post ride Bladder and Core
1.Wash the inflatable bladder with warm soapy water and dry before storage.
2.The inflatable bladder can remain inflated, or be deflated and stored on or off the carbon insert to suit your storage preference.
3. The Core should also be washed with warm soapy water and given a good wipe down cleaning any sand or debris from the mast flange and Flitecell lid compartment seals.
Regular Bladder maintenance
1. The inflatable bladder can be checked for leaks and repaired using the supplied repair kit.
2. 15 – 16 PSI is the recommended inflation pressure.
eFoil and Stem/console
1. The eFoil should be washed with freshwater after every use and is recommended to be wiped down with Isopropyl alcohol or WD-40. Especially targeting the areas where salt, grime and sand can build up arounds the cracks near fuselage, mast flange, tail and end cap.
2. Do not spray water over the Flitebox or power cables instead localize this by wetting a microfiber towel with soapy water and rubbing clean.
3. A good Idea is to spray some contact cleaner periodically into the power cable connections and give a good clean out.
4. The stem and console can be cleaned in the same way as the eFoil. Some water should be focused periodically on the inside of the stem and console to free any salt build up internally or around the thumb trigger.
Wireless Safety Key and controller
1. The Safety Key and Controller should be washed with warm soapy water and given a good rub and dry with a microfiber towel. Some freshwater should be sprayed around the trigger to clean any sand or debris.
Storage
Flitescooter and all its components should be stored in a dry, clean environment away from direct sunlight and in its bags or carry cases.
General Storage
1. Keep Flitecell stored out of the reach of children and pets.
2. DO NOT store the Flitecell near heat sources such as a furnace or heater.
3. DO NOT leave the Flitecell inside of a vehicle on hot days.
4. Ideal Flitecell storage temperature between 10°C (50°F) and 25°C (77°F) in a safe, dry place.
5. DO NOT store the Flitecell whilst charging. Disconnect the charger when not in use.
6. DO NOT store the Flitecell fully charged or discharged for a longer period of time.
7. For long or short term storage of Flitecell, a charge state of 40% (1 LED ON indicates 25 - 35% charge) is optimal. Only fully charge the Flitecell when planning a ride. We recommend that you discharge the Flitecell during your final session of the season.
8. After long term storage of your Fliteboard components and before use, you are required to charge the Flitecell and Flite controller to 100% using the supplied Fliteboard chargers. These charging processes may take longer than normal (up to 24 hours) but this gives you time to inspect and perform routine maintenance and checks before your ride.
9. DO NOT store or leave any equipment in direct sunlight.
Post ride
1. Open the board lid slowly, take care not to let it fall on the nose of the board. (If the lid is opened too far it may fall and damage the nose of the board).
2. After each ride, check to see if any water has leaked into the Flitecell cavity. If so, check the cause of the leak which may include: sand present on the sealing surface; a damaged or dislocated seal; damaged hinges or latches; or something obstructing the lid when closed.
3. Once the Flitecell has been removed ensure that the complete board, including Flitecell compartment, seals, lid and eFoil are washed thoroughly in fresh water. Let the board air dry and then wipe down with a clean, dry absorbent cloth. Ensure that Contact Cleaner is sprayed onto all connections.
Regular maintenance
1. Apply silicone based lubricant (non-solvent) to the latches and hinges every few weeks. Keep the lubricant away from the deck grip to avoid a slippery board.
2. Check the board regularly for damage or cracks. If damage is present have it repaired by a professional surfboard or sailboard repairer who is experienced with epoxy repairs.
3. Inspect the orange, mast flange seal regularly for any damage and ensure its is kept clean and free of any sand, grit or dirt.
4. During daily use ensure that the eFoil is removed from the board and wings from the eFoil at least every three days. Ensure Contact Cleaner is applied to all cables and Tef-Gel is reapplied to all screws.
Storage
1. Ensure that all sand, grit, dirt, and salt residue has been washed off with fresh water, and sufficiently dried.
2. Ensure that the Flitecell has been wiped down with a clean, dry absorbent cloth while switched off.
