Appletree Zapple S – High-Performance Foil Board
The Appletree Zapple S is a next-generation trench foil board built for advanced riders pushing the limits of foil surfing. Compact, ultra-responsive, and precision-tuned, it’s designed for wave-focused foilers who demand maximum control, speed, and connection.
Evolved from the original Zapple and developed alongside the AppleSlice Prone, the Zapple S delivers a smaller, more agile platform for tighter turns, steeper waves, and foil-assisted takeoffs.

Designed for Progressive Foil Surfing
The Zapple S is built for riders seeking a smaller, more reactive platform than the original Zapple. It excels in foil-assisted takeoffs, tight turning arcs, and high-speed control in steeper waves.
This is not a beginner board and is not intended for large foil setups. It performs best when paired with a Foil Drive system, unlocking more waves and more progressive lines.
If your goal is to ride harder, turn tighter, and push into more critical surf, the Zapple S delivers a true high-performance platform.
Foil Drive Compatibility: Gen2 vs Fusion
All stock boards are compatible with the Gen2 Foil Drive system. Custom builds can be configured for the newer Fusion system.
The Fusion battery extends further forward, which may shift foil positioning. To compensate, a custom extended trench (approx. 4” / 10 cm forward) can be added for proper adjustment.
Important: Only choose the extended trench if using Fusion or if additional adjustment is required. A longer recess can negatively affect water flow and performance.
Adding Fusion compatibility reduces total board volume by approximately 1 liter. This is not compensated, so factor this into your sizing.
Construction
50K Closed Cell Foam Core
Built from Appletree’s exclusive 50K closed cell foam, engineered to withstand extreme pressure (up to 50,000 kg/m²) while remaining lightweight and responsive. Its closed-cell structure prevents water absorption and eliminates blowouts in heat.
100% Carbon Fiber Construction
Full carbon construction delivers maximum stiffness, strength, and responsiveness. A stiffer board improves control and significantly enhances pumping efficiency.
The foil mount is CNC-machined for precision and reinforced with FUTURES one-shot boxes set in high-density PET honeycomb, fully wrapped in carbon. This creates an ultra-strong, unified structure with unmatched durability.
Appletree’s vacuum infusion process ensures optimal resin-to-fiber ratio, eliminating air pockets and preventing delamination. Reinforced standing areas resist heel dents, while high-density insert blocks ensure long-term durability and customization.
Sizes & Specifications
| Size | Width | Thickness | Volume |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4’4” | 18.25” | 2.9” | 29.6 L |
| 4’6” | 18.5” | 2.9” | 31.2 L |
| 4’8” | 19.0” | 2.9” | 33.3 L |
Which Size Should I Choose?
Choosing the right Zapple S size depends on your weight, skill level, and riding conditions. This board is designed for high-performance foiling, so volumes are intentionally low for maximum responsiveness.
Step 1: Choose Based on Your Weight
| Rider Weight | Recommended Size | Riding Feel |
|---|---|---|
| Under 150 lbs (68 kg) | 4’4” (29.6L) | Ultra-responsive, most agile |
| 150–180 lbs (68–82 kg) | 4’6” (31.2L) | Balanced performance and control |
| 180–210 lbs (82–95 kg) | 4’8” (33.3L) | More stability with strong performance |
| 210+ lbs (95+ kg) | 4’8” (33.3L) (max size) | Best option in this model range |
Step 2: Adjust for Skill Level
- Intermediate riders: Consider sizing up for easier paddling and takeoffs
- Advanced riders: Size down for tighter turns and maximum responsiveness
Step 3: Adjust for Conditions
- Smaller / weaker waves: Size up for easier lift and wave entry
- Larger / steeper waves: Size down for better control at speed
- Foil-assisted riding (e.g. Foil Drive): You can ride smaller sizes
Important to Know
The Zapple S is a low-volume, performance-focused board. Most riders will be riding well below their bodyweight in liters. This improves responsiveness but requires solid technique.
If you’re between sizes or unsure, choosing the slightly larger size will provide more stability and easier progression.
